Commentary | ".... while with his right he seized Don Quixote by the collar with so powerful a grasp,...".
At the inn, one of the officers of the Holy Brotherhood, reading don Quixote's description, tries to arrest him. Also in the scene, the priest, the barber, the innkeeper and others. Acceptable figures, with good gestures, but lightly theatrical. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with good light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
