Commentary | ".... and as he was leading his beast to the stable he espied Sancho Panza, who at that moment was repairing something about the selfsame pannel,...".
At the inn stable, the barber (owner of the basin and the packsaddle) encounters Sancho Panza and grabs his shoulder. Acceptable figures, but lacking certain naturalism. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with good light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
