Commentary | ".... and in so impressive a manner that the poor innkeeper was forced to call out for help".
The innkeeper Juan Palomeque beaten by two guests that don't want to pay the lodge; his wife runs calling for help. Good figures and gestures. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with good light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
