Commentary | ".... he introduced them to the judge, saying: «Cease, my lord, your tears,....»".
The priest reunites the captive (Ruy Pérez de Viedma), accompanied by Zoraida, with his brother, the judge Juan Pérez de Viedma. Also in the scene, don Quixote, the barber and others. Good figures, but lacking certain naturalism and expression. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with notable light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
