Commentary | ".... but as he drew near the cane was drawn farther in,...".
In a baño in Algiers, one of the captives tries to catch the cloth tied to the point of a cane that has appeared through a window while his companions (Ruy Pérez de Viedma among them) observe the scene. Acceptable figures, but lacking certain naturalism. Remarkable setting and excellent use of light. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the one used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
