Commentary | ".... giving to each his share, which, as I remember, was three thousand ducats,...".
Beginning of the captive's tale; his father decides to give to each son his part of the patrimony to begin his own life (church, sea or king's house). Acceptable figures with gestures of dialogue, but lacking certain naturalism. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details. Realistic/picturesque style with good light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 – After José Jiménez Aranda’s death, his brother, Luis Jiménez Aranda, continued illustrating Don Quixote (part I) following a very similar realistic/picturesque style as the used by his brother, but, sometimes, his figures lack naturalism. |
