Commentary ".... there lived two gentlemen of wealth and quality, Anselmo and Lotario...".
Different scenes from the tale "El Curioso Impertinente": Anselmo and Lotario; Lotario talking to Camila about Anselmo's love for her; Lotario asking Camila's father to allow Anselmo to get married with Camila; Anselmo and Camila; Anselmo telling Lotario his plan to prove Camila's fidelity; Anselmo's answers (you don't put a diamond on the anvil; hunting of the white ermine); Alselmo, Lotario and Camila having dinner; and Anselmo pretends to have to leave.
Very remarkable, original and carefully-done narrative composition.
Remarkable variety of figures, expressions and gestures.
Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow with impressionist effects.
Notes 1 – Reproduction of the original sketch (Chinese ink and gouache white). Jiménez Aranda meant to paint a more-finished drawing after this sketch using natural sceneries and real models, but he died before completing the project.
