Commentary | "... streched his neck as far as he could and peered between the legs of Rocinante,...".
Sancho, scared by a strong noise and hidden behind Rocinante, observes the cause of the noise (fulling mills, not represent yet) between the legs of the horse; don Quixote stays still mounted on Rocinante. Very remarkable figures; perfectly-drawn horse. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow with impressionist effects; notice the landscape. |
Notes | 1 – Reproduction of the original sketch (Chinese ink and gouache white). Jiménez Aranda meant to paint a more-finished drawing after this sketch using natural sceneries and real models, but he died before completing the project. |
