Commentary | "... and seizing the mule by the bridle he said: Halt, and be more mannerly, and render an account...»".
Don Quixote seizes the mule of one of the ecclesiastics (Alonso López) by the bridle and orders them again to tell him who they are. Remarkable variety of figures, gestures and expressions. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable night representation with the contrast of the lighted tapers. |
Notes | 1 – Reproduction of the original sketch (Chinese ink and gouache white). Jiménez Aranda meant to paint a more-finished drawing after this sketch using natural sceneries and real models, but he died before completing the project.
