	Commentary	"... «Sancho, my son, drink no water,; drink it not, my son, for it will kill thee: see, here I have the blessed balsam...»". Before Sancho, already mounted on his donkey, leaves the inn, Maritornes offers him a pitcher of water; don Quixote, from behind the inn wall, asks him not to drink the water, but the Fierabrás' balsam. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes, setting and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow with impressionist effects.
	Notes	1 – Reproduction of the original sketch (Chinese ink and gouache white). Jiménez Aranda meant to paint a more-finished drawing after this sketch using natural sceneries and real models, but he died before completing the project. 2 - "Por el valor pictórico, son notables los dibujos en que seguimos punto por punto el manteamiento de Sancho en el corral de la venta por la caterva de huéspedes maleantes, y los afanes de Don Quijote, que lo presencia desde fuera y le consuela con enseñarle la alcuza del bálsamo de Fierabrás" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
