	Commentary	"... that Rozinante should stumble and fall in the midst of his career,...". While charging against a group of silk merchants, Rocinante stumbles, falling horse and knight on the ground. Remarkable variety of gestures and expressions; notice the group of silk merchants. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes and landscape; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1899 in Sevilla and presented at the National Exposition of Madrid (1899). 2 - "Gustaba, sin duda, Aranda, que tenía rica inventiva, de los asuntos de muchas figuras, y así trató con amor los lances del encuentro de Don Quijote con los mercaderes que aparecen bajo sus quitasoles, con sus caballerías y con su acompañamiento de criados. [...] La arremetida del caballero, el tropezón de Rocinante, el rodar de aquél, y su arrogante discurso, caído y todo, que pone ya á un mozo de mulas en ademán de agredirle, y la paliza que el tal mozo le propina, empezando por quitarle la lanza, dándole, ciego y sordo á las voces de sus apiadados amos, hasta que, cansado, lo deja tal que prueba en vano el apaleado si prodría levantarse, son otros tantos cuadros acabados é interesantes" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
