	Commentary	"... and returned to the guard of his arms...". At the inn courtyard, don Quixote continues with the vigil of his arms by second time after the fight with the muleteers. Great interest in representing real Spanish and accurate period setting and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow; notice the full-moonlight effects.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1899 in Sevilla and presented at the National Exposition of Madrid (1899). 2 - "En quince composiciones desarrolla después el artista las escenas de aquella famosa noche en que Don Quijote veló en el corral de la venta las armas sobre la pila en que acostumbraban los arrieros dar de beber á sus recuas, sin omitir, tras del grave talante con que el loco se pasea con el lanzón, y el acabado cuadro en que el ventero informa á sus pintorescos y zafios huéspedes de la manía de Don Quijote, las contiendas de éste con los arrieros, las pedradas, miedos y bravezas que se describen en tan singular pasaje. El ser de noche tales escenas, obligó al artista á buscar variados efectos de luna, consiguiéndolo a veces de un modo tan justo, que pasma, sobre todo habida cuenta de que hubo de luchar para ello con las dificultades de una luz tan fría, y unas sombras tan espesas" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
