Commentary "Expecting that some dwarf would appear on the battlements...".
A dwarf blowing a horn and some soldiers among the merlons (battlements) of a castle as imagined by don Quixote.
The scene, although it is an imaginary one, has been resolved with realism and detail; accurate period setting, clothes and details.
Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly.
Notes 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898).
