Commentary | Don Quixote, standing, while the innkeeper knights him, doña Tolosa girds on his sword and doña Molinera buckles on his spurs; also in the scene, accurate to Cervantes' text, a boy holding a candle.
Excellent drawing and engraving and masterly use of light; notice the figure of doña Molinera, very remarkable. |
Notes | 1 - "En sus 36 aguafuertes los hay que todavía tienen, como un resabio, fuerte sabor romántico. Por jemplo: el que representa la escena de armar caballero a Don Quijote en la venta. Todavía en esa estampa se alza sobre el tejado venteril un cuarto de luna menguante y lleno de melancolía; y la moza del partido que calza las espuelas al héroe, muestra un pecho de alabastro en un escote que es pura tentación" (Givanel l243-244).
