Commentary | In order to disenchant Altisidora, several dueñas have to pinch Sancho, who "asiendo un hacha encendida, que junto a él estaba, dio tras las Dueñas" (69:2).
This scene was first represented by Bouttats (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672 - 1673); Vanderbank has divided it in three different illustrations (Minos, Rhadamanthus, the Duke, Duchess, don Quixote and servants). Same setting and characters than in previous illustration. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
Notes | 1 - Second of three illustrations about the same adventure. |
