Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho, both in a boat, arrive dangerously to a mill wheel and the millers try to save them.
Scene first represented in London: Hodgkin, 1687. Then, with a wide view; now, don Quixote and Sancho's expressions are more detailed (Sancho praying frightened; don Quixote threatening the millers that try to save them). Although Claude du Bosc's engraving is not as good as Van der Gucht's, the quality of the illustration is more than remarkable. |
Notes | Claude du Bosc also engraved six plates with designs by Louis Du Guernier for Alexader Pope's "Rape of the Lock" (1714). |
