Commentary | Before Governor Sancho, accompanied by his secretary and majordomo (?), a tailor shows five little hoods, one on each finger; also the accusing farmer.
Original choice; in previous editions it has been represented the judgement between the woman and the man accused of rape, and the judgement of the hidden money. It has been represented the funniest moment: when the tailor shows the five little hoods. Rich details (excellent burin engraving); Sancho's figure with dignity; farmer's face is a real portrait. Details from Cervantes' text: incription "OY DIA A TANTOS DE TAL MES TOMÓ POSESION DE ESTA INSULA EL SEÑOR DON SANCHO PANZA QUE MUCHOS AÑOS LA GOCE". Good drawing and remarkable engraving. |
