| Commentary | Don Quixote returns to his house into a cage on an oxcart and is received by the housekeepr and his niece.
Print of great quality where three faces have been highlighted: the ones of don Quixote, sticking out his head through the bars of the cage, the housekeeper and the niece; their expressions are excellent. Certain picturesquism in details (the carter, the church tower, the dog, the cart...). |
| Notes | 1 - Wrongly-placed in chapter 46:1; it corresponds to chapter 52:1. This mistake is due to a different reading of the scene: don Quixote leaving the inn while the innkeper's wife and her daughter pretend to cry.
2 - Same copy after Gilbert's illustration (London: Charles Daly, 1842 and London: Bohn, 1842) first published in London: Appleton, 1853. |
