Commentary | Governor Sancho judging the case of a man (on the left) accusing another (with a staff; on the right) of owing him a quantity of money (hidden into the staff).
Sancho appears surrounded by the secretary, majordomo, steward and others. Well-known scene; Wald has tried to represent it with "Spanish" realism; remarkable diversity of figures and gestures. Sancho's figure appears noble, as a real governor. Good setting; resolved with precise watercolor touches. |
