Commentary | In Barataria Island, governor Sancho is not allowed to eat by doctor Pedro Recio, who, pointing with his wand, orders a pair of pages to take away the dishes from Sancho's table.
Well-known scene, resolved without great novelty; original in some details, like the lobster. Style in keeping with the German Nazarene movement and the English Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood; notice the servant on the right. |
Notes | 1 - The title page refers to "Farbendruckbildern" (images printed in colors; chromotypes); Wald's original watercolors have been reproduced using different photography negatives. The result is quite similar to a chromolithograph.
2 - Signed by the technician/printer M. Seeger (Stuttgart). 3 - Despite the reference to p. 182, it has been placed f.p. 176. |
