Commentary | The priest, barber, niece and housekeeper burning don Quixote's chivalry books.
The scene has been resolved in an unusual way (all the characters outdoors) and not too much accurate to Cervantes' text; the priest shouldn't be throwing the books into the fire. Detailed and realistic figures; the setting, quite picturesque, tries to be "Spanish" (notice the barber's clothes). |
Notes | 1 - B/w illustrations are signed not only by the painter (AW), but also by the photographer/technician; however, his signature has not been identified; it is formed by the initials superimposed (A? C? T? P?) and the reference "ph." (photographer or photographed). |
