Commentary | Don Quixote mounted on Rocinante and lifting his sword completely ready to land it on the Basque, who is protecting himself with a cushion.
In the background, the carriage with the Basque ladies. Masterly drawing; the figures of don Quixote and the Basque are highly worth-noting, their expressions, details, gestures...; the expression of the scared Basque is excellent. |
Notes | 1 - Glyphographic copy by Taylor & Wass after the original plate designed and etched by Schrödter first appeared in an illustrated wrapper in Altona/Leipzig: G. Mayer (printed in Leipzig by G. Kreysing), 1863.
2 - Glyphography: A process similar to etching, in which, by means of voltaic electricity, a raised copy of a drawing is made, so that it can be used to print from. |
