Commentary | After knowing Merlin's prophecy about the way to disenchant Dulcinea, Sancho refuses to whip himself and don Quixote gets angry with him (notice don Quixote and Sancho's gesture reflecting this part of the dialogue).
In the background, an excellent and detailed representation of Merlin's cart (penitents in white with lighted tapers, a maiden covered with a veil, Merlin in black robes...). The Duke and Duchess observe the scene. Remarkable light and shadow effects; notice don Quixote and Sancho's figures, almost in black in the foreground, over the white penitents in the background. |
