| Commentary | At the inn, the innkeeper's wife helps the priest and the barber to disguise themselves; the priest with woman clothes and the barber with a beard (an ox tail). The innkeeper, his daughter and Maritormes observe them.
This scene has been resolved with great naturalism and results comical; it must be compared with Hogarth's famous illustration about this same episode. |
