Commentary | This scene is well-known and has been several times represented before, but Balaca's illustration results remarkable.
Vivaldo reads Grisóstomo's song before the corpse of the shepherd and surrounded by goatherds, Ambrosio, don Quixote and Sancho; the figures are small, but their gestures and expressions are well-resolved. In the background, two goatherds dig Grisóstomo's grave. |
