Commentary | At the inn, don Quixote, knelt, knighted by the innkeeper; also the boy holding a candle and two party girls (doña Tolosa and doña Molinera); a third woman too (the innkeeper's wife?).
Well-known scene and basic composition, but it has been represented with masterly drawing and engraving; notice shading, details (clouds, candle light effects...), faces and expressions. Remarkable and highly-detailed ornamental frame; it includes Arab architectures and chivalry books (Amadis de Gaule, Don Belianis, Miroir de la Chevalerie....). Publisher's initials, "A. M." (A. Mame), appear in the book Miroir de la Chevalerie. |
