Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho are saying goodbye to the Duke and the Duchess when Altisidora appears to demand three night-coifs and a pair of garters.
Wrongly-set scene; Vanderbank has represented the characters into a room, but Cervantes describes them at the palace courtyard. Figures of excellent drawing and engraving; Altisidora (of great beauty and carefully-done gesture) is specially remarkable. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for London: Tonson, 1749, now partially-erased.
