Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho knelt before three peasant girls on donkeys; Sancho introduces one of them to don Quixote as the enchanted Dulcinea.
Well-known scene; already canonical; composition without much novelty. Remarkable image of "Dulcinea" as a fat and ugly peasant girl (even the other two peasant girls are more beatiful). Notice Sancho covering his mouth with his hand, trying not to laugh. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
