	Commentary	Don Quixote, while resting in bed, wounded, dejected and moody, with his head bandaged and marked by the claws of a cat, hears the door open (notice his eye). This representation of don Quixote is simply masterly.

Sus tipos de Don Quijote y Sancho son inolvidables; por ejemplo, el Don Quijote maltrecho, derrotado y febril, de vuelta de una de sus desventuradas salidas. Nadie había grabado aún con tal vigor los rasgos de esta faz dolorosa, que a veces nos hace desternillar de risa; nadie nos había mostrado así esta cabeza de un loco que parece un santo, abrumada, más que por los golpes, las bizmas y emplastos, por el hervor interno de sus dolorosos pensamientos" (GG234). Givanel mistakes the illustration; it does not represent don Quixote after some of his sallies.
