Commentary | Reference to the captive's tale; the boat of the captive and Zoraida is boarded by a French vessel (corsairs).
Drawing and engraving are excellent; notice how the engraver has reproduced the horizon light effects and the light reflections on the waves, on the smoke of the canons, the movement of water... Very accurate to Cervantes' text: "con la luz de la luna, que claramente resplandecía, vimos cerca de nosotros un bajel redondo, que, con todas las velas tendidas [...] de improviso soltaron dos piezas de artillería, y, a lo que parecía, ambas venían con cadenas, porque con una cortaron nuestro árbol por medio" (41:1). |
