Commentary Reference to the dialogue between the priest and the innkeeper about chivalry novels; Diego García de Paredes, posted with a two-handed sword at the foot of a bridge, kept the whole of an immense army from passing over it.
This kind of medieval and legendary images (supposedly real according to the priest) are very in keeping with Romanticism and Doré's liking.
Excellent drawing and engraving; notice the representation of the army, the variety of soldiers, and the mountain landscape.
