Commentary In the foreground, don Quixote, with dignity, and Sancho Panza, frightened and with his back turned on the viewer, mounted on Clavileño (with a peg on its forehead); both blindfolded.
Several servants with torches and a pair of bellows simulate Clavileño's flight.
In the background, the Duke and Duchess observe them.
Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657).
Remarkable and carefully-done court setting: fountain, arbour, moon light...
Good plate; excellent shading.
Notes 1 - Same plate first used for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780.
