Commentary | The innkeeper's wife and Maritornes (sketched in the background) ask don Quixote to help the innkeeper, beaten up by two guests, but don Quixote refuses to help him, because they are not knights; "poniendo mano a su espada, acudió a la puerta de la venta, adonde aún todavía traían los dos huéspedes a mal traer al ventero; pero, así como llegó, embazó y se estuvo quedo" (44:1).
The figures of the three men fighting are resolved with good realism. |
Notes | 1 - Process reproduction after the original lithograph (Mexico: Masse y Decaen; I. Cumplido, 1842) after Johannot's design (Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37). |
