Commentary | Well-balanced composition with two different scenes:
The first one in the foreground: don Quixote and Sancho kneel down before one peasant girl introduced by Sancho as the enchanted Dulcinea; also two more peasant girls. The second scene in the background: the three peasant girls flee away and one of them falls from her donkey, showing her ass (humorous). The same basic composition will be used until the 20th century. Printing is poor in some parts (see background figures). |
