Commentary | Don Quixote sends Sancho to El Toboso to find Dulcinea, but, when don Quixote is not within sight, Sancho dismounts from his ass, seats at the foot of a tree and begins to commune with himself about Dulcinea: "Voy a buscar, como quien no dice nada, a una princesa, y en ella al sol de la hermosura y a todo el cielo junto" (10:2); notice the crown imagined by Sancho as a symbol of this "princess". |
Notes | 1 - Process reproduction after Doré and Pisan's original print (Paris: L. Hachette et Cie., 1863).
2 - Placed to illustrate "DQ promises SP an island". |
