Commentary | Sancho Panza, in the center of the composition, gesticulates while three servants, by Pedro Recio's order, take the most delicious dishes away.
Pedro Recio is dressed in a ridiculous manner. Suitable scene for Coypel's style: many servants (forming a semicircle), rich architecture, chandelier, curtains, clothes... Remarkable light and shadow effects. Excellent drawing and engraving. |
Notes | 1 - Plate XXVI (in the French edition, the plates aren't numbered).
2 - Illustration dated in 1745. 3 - Copied after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30). 4 - The composition has been turned and the format now is vertical, so Schley has enlarged the curtain, the ceiling and the floor. |
