Commentary Basic and conventional composition, but enriched with Coypel´s bucolic and galant style.
Two different scenes:
In the foreground, the priest, the barber and Cardenio discover Dorotea (in men clothes), who is washing her feet into a stream.
In the background, Sancho tries to convince don Quixote to leave Sierra Morena.
Excellent engraving (see beaming water).
Notes 1 - Plate VII (in the French edition, the plates aren't numbered).
2 - Illustration signed in 1745.
3 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1735-38). The composition has been turned and the format now is vertical, so Schley has enlarged the trees.
