Commentary | Sancho, in nightdress and with frightened expression, surrounded by soldiers that arrive to inform him about the invasion of Barataria Island; "más de veinte personas con hachas encendidas, y con las espadas desenvainadas, gritando todos a grandes voces" (51:2).
Rivelles has not chosen the most humorous moment of the whole episode (as it would be Sancho tied between two shields). Detailed Gothic architecture. Well-drawn and engraved figures and well-resolved movement and racket (smoke, gestures...). Good engraving. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for Paris: Baudry, 1835 (after Rivelle's illustration for Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1819).
2 - Unsigned. |
