Commentary | In the center of the composition, don Quixote and Sancho mounted on Clavileño; around them, pages and maidens with bellows and torches; in the right background, the Duke and Duchess.
The scene has been resolved with happiness, without too much drama. Excellent combination of lithographic pencil (drawing and shading), sepia background and reserves in white to create light/shadow effects. It can be compared with Johannot's illustration (Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37). |
