Commentary | In the upper half, a canonical image of don Quixote on Rocinante accompanied by Sancho on his donkey surrounded by an ornamental frame with images of Dulcinea, castles, damsels, errant knights, enchanters, dragons, armies...
In the lower half, the scrutiny of don Quixote's library (with the housekeeper, the niece, the priest and the barber; as carved in a pedestal), Cervantes' portrait, arms, a barber basin and a sand clock. Illustration with combination of fantasy and reality in keeping with the romantic tradition. Remarkable drawing and engraving. |
