Commentary | Before the Duke, Duchess and don Quixote, the ecclesiastic begins his speech against chivalry novels; don Quixote listens to him with serious face.
Observe the different sorts of drawing/engraving according to fore, middle or background. Don Quixote and the ecclesiastic (in the foreground) are carefully drawn and engraved; the Duke and Duchess (in the middle ground) appears with a light drawing; and a page (in the background) only sketched. |
