Commentary | This and the next two illustrations are well-known since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); Johannot has divided the episode, traditionally represented in one only scene, in three.
Now, don Quixote and Sancho arrive to Grisóstomo's burial. In a small vignette, a large landscape with small figures; the scene has been composed as a grandiose performance; it results very theatrical. |
Notes | 1 - Same illustration and wooden block first used for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37. |
