Commentary | In the foreground, with their backs turned to the viewer, as shadows, the Duke, the Duchess, don Quixote and Sancho; they observe the entry of Merlin´s cart with Dulcinea (in the background).
The scene is resolved with simplicity, without details and little accurate to Cervantes´text (Merlin should appear as Death, not as a magician). Drawing and engraving are poor. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate engraved for Paris: Barbin, 1681.
2 - Copy after Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-1673. |
