Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate:
The first one in the background: during the night (not well-represented), Sancho and the Knight of the Mirrors' squire have dinner, while their masters talk. In the foreground, the second scene: in the morning, don Quixote defeats the Knight of the Mirrors (Sansón Carrasco) and his squire (Tomé Cecial) tries to stop him. Sancho observes astonished Sansón Carrasco's face. Tomé Cecial should appear with a fake big nose. Clumsy representation of movement, disproportionate figures and artificial gestures. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate engraved for Paris: Barbin, 1681.
2 - Copy after Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-1673. |
