Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate:
The first one, in the background: don Quixote fights with the goatherd while the priest, the barber, the officers of the Holy Brotherhood and the canon of Toledo observe them; one of the canon's servants grabs Sancho to prevent him from helping his master. The second scene, in the foreground: Sancho takes care of don Quixote, defeated by one of the penitents, while the priest talk to another priest. "El Cura fué conocido de otro Cura, que en la procesión venía, cuyo conocimiento puso en sosiego el concebido temor de los escuadrones" (52:1). Drawing and engraving are acceptable, but poor. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate engraved for Paris: Barbin, 1681.
2 - Copy after Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-1673. |
