Commentary | Two different scenes in the same plate (archaic):
In the foreground, at Juan Palomeque's inn, Sancho's blanketing is observed by don Quixote from behind the inn wall. In the background, don Quixote fighting with a flock of sheep. Simple composition that will be used until the 20th century. Drawing and engraving are poor and simple; barely-printed background. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate engraved for Paris: Barbin, 1681.
2 - Turned copy after Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-1673. |
