Commentary | In the foreground, with their backs turned to the viewer, as shadows, the Duke, the Duchess, don Quixote and Sancho; they observe the entry of Merlin´s cart with Dulcinea (in the background).
The scene has been resolved with simplicity and without many details. Drawing and engraving are poor; light and shadow effects are forced. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first used for Amsterdam: Willem van Lamsveld, 1696.
2 – Copy after Savery’s plate (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). |
