Commentary Three different scenes in the same plate (archaic):
In the background, the first one: don Quixote attacks the windmills while Sancho tries to stop him.
In the middle ground, the second one: Sancho is beaten by the Benedictine monks' servants.
In the foreground, don Quixote fights with the Basque, while a Basque lady observes them from her carriage.
The Basque holding a stool is not accurate to Cervantes' text; it should be a cushion.
Drawing and engraving are acceptable.
Notes 1 - Same plate first used for Amsterdam: Willem van Lamsveld, 1696.
2 – Bad copy after Savery’s plate (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657).
