Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote and Sancho mounted on Clavileño; two servants simulate its flight with a pair of bellows and a torch; another servant is lighting its fuse.
In the background, under a rich tent, the Duke and the Duchess observe the scene. This composition will be used without many changes until the 20th century. Drawing and engraving are poor in details. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate by unknown engraver first used for Brussels: Mommarte, 1662, which was a clumsy copy after Savery's illustration (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). |
