Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote gets ready to fight with a lion while the lionkeeper opens the gate of the cage.
In the background, Sancho and don Diego de Miranda running away. This composition, with not many changes, will be used until the 20th century. Don Quixote has been drawn crudly. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved by anonymous engraver for Brussels: Mommarte, 1662, which was a bad copy after Savery's illustration (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). |
